So who took part in the research
The research was open to customers on Pathways to Work and Flexible New Deal programmes across the UK, delivered by both A4e and our partners.
- 1,965 Flexible New Deal customers completed the research and
- 229 Pathways to Work customers took part.
The survey was open to all customers who had been on the programme for more than two weeks. It was available on-line and participants were asked to complete it independently on company premises. It took approximately 5-10 minutes to complete and no incentive was given for taking part.
Regional response rates
- Flexible New Deal: 42% received from South Yorkshire and Derbyshire
- Pathways to Work: 40% from West Yorkshire

- Flexible New Deal: Relatively even across age groups up to 55. 8% in 55+
- Pathways to Work: Majority (66%) in 35 -55, with only 8% in 18-24 and 10% in 55+
Gender
- Flexible New Deal: 73% male
- Pathways to Work: 57% male
Ethnicity
- Flexible New Deal: 82% white British *
- Pathways to Work: 88% white British **

Who did the research
The research was carried out by CI Research, an independent research company.
* Flexible New Deal: The majority of respondents were White British (82%). This was relatively consistent across all regions, with the exception of Central London, Lambeth, Southwark & Wandsworth where only 29% of those consulted classified themselves as White British.
** Pathways to Work: The majority of respondents were White British (88%). This was relatively consistent across all regions, with the exception of Surrey and Sussex where 79% of those consulted classified themselves as White British.
