PATHWAYS in Cornwall have recruited a new receptionist that is purrfect at making people with health related disabilities feel relaxed when visiting our Bodmin offices.

Staff has named the cat (PTW) Pathways to Work - who is always the first to arrive and the last to go home. All she requires during the day is a tin of cat food, bowl of water, and plenty of love and attention from local clients and the Pathways team.

The Department of Work and Pensions has announced that private provider A4e is the preferred bidder to supply flexible New Deal (FND) services in 5 UK regions -

North & East Yorkshire and Humber, Tees Valley
South Yorkshire, Derbyshire
Cambridgeshire & Suffolk, Norfolk, Lincolnshire and Rutland
Black Country
Central London, Lambeth, Southwark and Wandsworth

A4e is delighted that the Federal Government has awarded A4e contracts to operate Job Services Australia on behalf of the Government in the following Employment Service Areas (ESAs): Eastern Suburbs, Sydney; St George Sutherland, Sydney and Keepit, in the Hunter Labour Market Region.

The new employment services are a result of extensive consultation by the Federal Government. Over the last 2 years, A4e has undertaken considerable work with service users and partners to input into this consultation. The procurement process set by the Government for awarding these contacts is very robust and we are very pleased to have the opportunity to be part of this fresh approach to employment services to Australian jobseekers.

A4e welcomes the report of the Work & Pensions Select Committee on Flexible New Deal. A4e gave oral and written evidence to inform the work of the Committee and broadly supports its extensive findings. The Select Committee has endorsed the move towards longer, outcome-based contracts for FND, the emphasis on personalisation and the 'black box' approach. These are all changes A4e has passionately campaigned for since we believe they will significantly improve the quality of the services customers receive. A number of concerns have also been raised by the Committee in their report and A4e wish to outline how we, and our public, private and third sector partners, are addressing the challenges that have been identified.

Plymouth MP Alison Seabeck recently visited A4e offices to find out how the New Deal, Pathways, ESF Plymouth Works Plus and the LSC Employability Skills Programmes are running in the city, and helping the unemployed get back into work. Alison Seabeck toured the offices and met lone parents being helped by A4e, & viewed the city's most successful volunteer mentoring programme -at encouraging local employers in working with our unemployed clients. Alison was especially interested in the ESF provision where people wanting to get business training across the city will be able to apply for a slice
of £2.5 million put up by the European Social Fund to develop employment and skills in the area.
